Partial Eclipse Of The Sun, June 10th, 2021

Actually it is been an annular eclipse of the Sun in some parts of the world, but at my place the Sun has only been covered by the Moon by some 7 % – nonetheless a great occurrence. To avoid the predicted clouds and storms around midday, I headed north this time. After about an hours drive, I ended up at the “Geographic center of Bavaria” at Kipfenberg, Upper Bavaria. Not knowing that such a place exists, I put up my gear at the parking lot, in the middle of a forrest. Some clouds moved in at the maximum of the eclipse, but all in all its been a great day for taking the telescope out. Enjoy!

Comet C/2020 F3 Neowise, July 10th 2020

Haven´t seen such a beauty of a comet since Panstarrs in 2014. Went out to one of my favorite locations around my home this morning at 3 am to see what I would get. Not only a comet, but also noctilucent clouds – very rare around the 48th latitude where I live. My jaws almost hit the ground when I saw the first image appearing on my screen out in the fields. But there has been more: the Moon, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, the Pleiades, the Hyades and the very faint Neptun and Uranus. What a morning to start with. Enjoy!

Hop Fields At Sunset

Revisiting the same place over and over again may sound a bit boring, but the possibilities it holds photographically speaking are diverse. I have spent days and nights out in the hop fields of the Hallertau, Lower Bavaria, either working there in my adolescent days or nowadays, just cruising around to see what might get my attention. No night shots this time, but the setting sun, which is only visible like that around this time of the year. Enjoy!

Back On Track

An almost 3-year long crusade of disorientation has finally came to an end. Just before X-mas 2014, I moved back to the area where I grew up, just a stones throw away from my parental home. I love traveling, but I also love being at home, doing some craft work (joiner) again and carrying for my children. I don´t have to run anymore, looking for something on the outside. If things are supposed to be, they will be. The key to happiness? Be thankful for what you already have…Here are some images from my new and yet so familiar playground. I love it being back home – back on track. And yes – I´m addicted to the Moon… Enjoy!

Crescent Moon: Three In A Row

I haven´t been able to catch the crescent of the Moon for three times in a row after a New Moon. Must be the new place I´m living at….Again, magic happened and watching the colors changing/shifting during the different times of twilight at night (civilian/nautical/astronomical), is something very special to me. You may notice the change of the colors at the three images…Enjoy!

Not much writing this time – just enjoy the images which I consider my favorites of 2013. The images will also participate on Jim Goldstein´s blog, which you can find here: http://www.jmg-galleries.com/blog/2013/12/18/blog-project-photos-2013/ . Thanks Jim for the effort! Enjoy!

Honoring My Father

Today is the 6th anniversary of my father´s death, who has died on 27th of Dec. 2007. What better to do than honoring my Dad with a walk through the woods (what he loved to do himself so much), accompanied by my youngest son Jakob, 10, on this special day. We visited a small chapel along the edge of the forest, went back in total darkness and made a selfie, looking towards the stars and thinking about him. Love you…

The Last Rites Of Winter

By now, winter is gone, at least to an elevation of 1500 m a.s.l. I took this images in the attempt to photograph comet PanStarrs early morning, 2nd of April 2013, but the night I arrived at the Rossfeldpanorama-Straße, Berchtesgaden, Upper Bavaria, Germany, I got nothing but clouds and the sight was below 50 m – much different to the predicted clear skies for that night. Traveling for 3 hours and a 180 km drive away, I camped in my van, set the alarm for 5:00 am and waited for the things to come. First I was disappointed by the fact that there were still clouds and comet PanStarrs and the Andromeda nebula were obscured by clouds, but when I got home and looked at the images, the trip was it worthwhile, and it got me some images I dreamed of for some time – extended low stratus clouds down in the valley and stars up above!  Enjoy!
